Whzan – Overview

Since launching in 2011, Whzan technology has been adopted across a nationwide range of care settings to improve the health of vulnerable people, supporting the work of care professionals and relieving the strain on Local Authorities and the NHS.

Primarily known for our Blue Box, Guardian Activity Monitoring and Virtual Wards, our tech is now used by over 40,000 carers to monitor more than 100,000 patients & residents across the UK – delivering accurate assessments, informing crucial decision-making and protecting people at risk of deterioration.

In simple terms, we collect resident and patient health and activity monitoring data and ensure it is immediately sent to those who need it most - clinicians, carers, emergency services or friends and family.

Any notifications, alerts and emergency alarms are handled by the integration with Skyresponse. This ensures speedy intervention, action and in many cases, prevention.

Our systems are also interoperable with GPs and health clinicians, sending immediate data to NHS Electronic Patient Record Systems, including EMIS, Rio and SystmOne.

Whzan Guardian

Whzan have developed a new way to monitor vulnerable people at home, creating AI to reduce demand on community services, keep people at home for longer, reduce care home costs and relieve stress on emergency services.

Guardian is a collection of discreet wireless IoT sensors placed throughout the home – monitoring activity, behaviour and environment according to need.

It detects movement, open windows and doors, electronic devices such as kettles and fridge doors, temperature, damp and cold and much more, checking activity, nourishment, hydration and medication.

All monitoring data feeds into a centralised app, keeping family, close friends and care professionals updated on changing circumstances and delivering a wider care network.

Immediate intervention in behaviour changes is possible via alerts and alarms provided by Sky Response meaning quicker support, improved outcomes and lower costs.

Whzan Blue Box & Virtual Wards

Our award winning portable Blue Box telehealth system is keeping patients safely at home by allowing care professionals to remotely monitor a range of vital signs, activity and NEWS2, and communicate with the patient using video calls or messaging.

Care Homes/Hospitals

Whzan’s Blue Box extends primary care capacity into care homes enabling carers with little or no clinical training to conduct resident assessments at a frequency of their choosing.

Carers in the care home can clearly identify signs of illness and deterioration earlier and validate their reasons to seek help or escalate conditions.

Whzan data is communicated to GPs/NHS care professionals in a common language, through NEWS2 scores, allowing speedy intervention where necessary.

Emergency alerts and alarms/changes in behaviour can be sent and actioned immediately through our partnership with Skyresponse.

Carers in the care home can clearly identify signs of illness and deterioration earlier and validate their reasons to seek help or escalate conditions.

Virtual Wards

Readings are typically taken by the patient 3-4 times a day as prompted by the Whzan tablet computer & our wearable technology enables ongoing monitoring throughout the day and on the move. Virtual Ward hub users see a real-time view and prioritise community support accordingly.

Virtual Wards can be set up almost immediately. Available to rent or buy, all equipment is in stock and ready to be deployed, within one week from the initial request. NHS professionals are on hand to either train the care team, or the patient on how to use the portable equipment.

Whzan have established virtual technology wards around the country for NHS partners in many conditions including Respiratory, COPD, Heart Failure, Flu & Covid, Frailty & OPAT.

Our NHS partners are quoting improved outcomes, reduced admissions of 65%+, tens of thousands of bed days saved and hundreds of thousands of pounds in savings.
